Michael Shifter, presidente del Diálogo Interamericano, conversó con Voz de América sobre su trabajo de más de tres décadas centrado en Latinoamérica y sus reflexiones sobre el estado de la región previo a su retiro del Diálogo Interamericano. En la entrevista, Shifter habló sobre su carrera como latinoamericanista, comenzando a los 14 años en un viaje de intercambio estudiantil, recordando los años que paso viviendo en Perú, Chile y Brasil, eventualmente su llegada a Washington DC como líder del Diálogo Interamericano, donde pudo influir con su visión sobre América Latina.

Michael Shifter, presidente del Diálogo Interamericano, y Bruno Binetti, investigador no residente del Diálogo, analizaron las ultimas tres décadas de relación entre Estados Unidos y América Latina en un articulo para el Pensamiento Iberoamericano, la Revista de la Secretaria General Iberoamericana. Según los autores, la cooperación hemisférica tuvo un auge al terminar la Guerra Fría, pero durante los 2000 comenzó un estancamiento que se mantiene hasta hoy.

Michael Shifter Awarded the Cross of the Order of Isabel la Catolica

On December 2, 2021 Michael Shifter was awarded the Cross of the Order of the Isabel la Catolica by Ambassador Santiago Cabanas. The Cross of the Order of Isabel la Catolica is a Spanish Civil order created in 1815 by King Ferdinand VII to recognize exceptional and meritorious work of recipients, especially related to services to the Americas.
