On December 10, 2020, more than 700 participants joined live for “Forward Together: A Conversation with Former Presidents of the Americas,” a virtual panel of former presidents featuring Laura Chinchilla of Costa Rica, Ricardo Lagos of Chile, Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia, and Ernesto Zedillo of Mexico. The discussion was moderated by Karen DeYoung of The Washington Post. The program began with opening remarks by Michael Shifter, president of the Dialogue, and Ambassador Thomas A. Shannon, Jr., co-chair of the Dialogue’s Board of Directors, offered closing remarks.
On June 7, 2022, the Inter-American Dialogue, in partnership with the Office of the Mayor of Los Angeles and CAF-Development Bank of Latin America, hosted the first Mayors Summit ahead of the IX Summit of the Americas.
On June 6 Michael Shifter, senior fellow of the Inter-American Dialogue, was interviewed by the Hopkins Podcast of Foreign Affairs about the IX Summit of the Americas held in Los Angeles. On top of the successes and shortcomings of the Summit, the conversation also covered the most recent developments of US foreign policy towards Latin America.

On July 13, 2022, the Inter-American Dialogue hosted an event in collaboration with the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center and the Truman Center for National Policy focused on the next Cities Summit to be held in Denver in 2023.
