Marco Rubio serves as the senior US senator from Florida, having first been elected to the Senate in 2010. He is chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship as well as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where he is known for his involvement in shaping US policies regarding Latin America. He is also chairman of the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues.
Prior to becoming senator, Rubio was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2000 to 2008, serving as majority leader from 2003 to 2006 and House speaker from 2006 to 2008. Previous to this, Rubio was a city commissioner for West Miami.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Florida and a juris doctor from the University of Miami Law School.
