Lucas Martins joined the Inter-American Dialogue in 2022 as the Program Assistant for the Education Program.
Martins graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude from Sewanee: The University of the South with a B.A. in Politics and International & Global Studies.
Martins’ areas of interest include Latin American studies, development & political economy, and citizenship & political action. In college, he researched indigenous social movements in Chile and socio-environmental conflicts in Brazil. Some of his research has been published in academic journals such as Brazil’s State University of Rio de Janeiro – Mural Internacional.
Martins is part of the Oxford University’s Consortium for Human Rights and has served as a mentor for MCW’s Young Leaders Fellowship by supporting education and leadership development for youth in the Global South. Lucas is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, with working proficiency in French.
