ONLINE EVENT: New Infrastructure—Emerging Trends in Chinese Investment in Latin America
Chinese investment in Latin America has slowed in recent years amid global economic headwinds and shifts in economic policy in Beijing. In this online event on April 11, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM EDT, co-organized by the Brazil-China Business Council (CEBC) and the Inter-American Dialogue’s Asia & Latin America Program, panelists Margaret Myers and Tulio Cariello will consider recent developments and emerging trends in Chinese economic engagement with the region, focusing on sectors such as energy transition and technology, which are among those that China considers “new infrastructure.” The discussion will feature main findings from CEBC’s report, Chinese Investment in Brazil 2022: Technology and Energy Transition, and the Dialogue’s recent “New Infrastructure”: Emerging Trends in Chinese Foreign Direct Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean.
