ONLINE EVENT: Is Latin America Maximizing (or Missing Out on) China’s International Development Strategy?

RSVP Now

The Inter-American Dialogue’s Asia and Latin America Program is pleased to host Carol Wise, professor of international relations at the University of Southern California, to share key findings from her recent book, Dragonomics: How Latin America Is Maximizing (or Missing Out on) China’s International Development Strategy. In this volume, Wise had traced the evolution of political and economic ties between China and Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Peru, analyzing how success varies by sector, project, and country. She also assesses the costs and benefits of Latin America’s recent pivot toward Asia. What are the opportunities and risks of closer economic integration with China? How can the region ensure best outcomes in its cooperative arrangements with China? And what are the region’s prospects in a shifting and increasingly competitive geopolitical environment?
