Addressing the Root Causes of Migration: Insights from the US Strategy for Central America
The US Strategy for Central America was launched a decade ago with the goal of addressing the root causes of migration by promoting economic growth, improving governance, and enhancing security in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Under the Biden-Harris administration, the strategy was updated and renamed The Root Causes Strategy, which includes promoting human rights and labor rights and combatting sexual and gender-based violence.
What are the lessons learned from the different iterations of the strategy? Where have we seen improvements and why? What progress has been made and what are the priorities for the future?
