HYBRID EVENT: A Conversation on Central America
The Central American region continues to face formidable challenges ranging from continued irregular migration to slow economic growth with limited opportunities for citizens, to democratic backsliding. The Biden-Harris Administration has responded since day one with a comprehensive strategy to address the root causes of migration. Although the region’s economic dependence on the United States has increased, obstacles to progress remain. Particular areas of concern are Nicaragua’s further descent into authoritarianism and illegitimate challenges to Guatemala’s presidential election.
Join us Friday, August 4, from 1:15 PM to 2:30 PM EDT for a lively, in-person exchange on US policy towards and relations with Central America with Biden-Harris Administration officials working on policy in the region.
The conversation will focus on progress of the Root Causes Strategy and touch on how US policy seeks to address challenges in the region while protecting US policy priorities and the national interest.
What are the United States’ greatest challenges in the region, and where have we seen impact and progress? Which countries represent a priority or a higher risk to regional stability? How do we describe our partnerships with governments and other key stakeholders in Central America?
Please note that this event will be held in English.
