Family remittances in Latin America and the Caribbean have become a critical source of income for women, serving not just as financial support but as a catalyst for personal economic empowerment. Beyond immediate income, these person-to-person transfers significantly boost recipients’ financial resilience by encouraging savings and asset accumulation.
This hybrid event will examine critical questions about women’s financial empowerment: How does limited financial access create vulnerability? Can remittances enhance women’s income and financial opportunities? What strategies in financial inclusion might boost economic empowerment? What policy and international cooperation approaches could advance women’s economic integration, including potential digital financial solutions?
Join the Inter-American Dialogue on Wednesday, December 11, from 9:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. ET for a conversation about women, remittances, and financial inclusion in Guatemala to reflect on issues of prosperity and access to financial services for women. The event is based on a recently published study, “Women, Remittances, and Financial Inclusion in Guatemala,” by the Inter-American Dialogue’s Migration, Remittances, and Development Program.
