The performance of Cuba and the DR in SERCE

˙ PREAL Blog

We are pleased to share with you a column written by PREAL Co-director Dr. Jeffrey Puryear, which was recently published in the Latin America Advisor—the daily publication of the Inter-American Dialogue.

In his column, Puryear discusses the results of the Second Regional, Comparative, and Explanatory Study (SERCE), a student achievement test that assessed the skills of third- and sixth-graders in reading, math, and science, in 16 Latin American countries. He compares the disparate scores of Cuban and Dominican students to illustrate why it is key that countries in the region use the results from SERCE to better understand the reasons for their achievement.
