On May 6, 2021, the Inter-American Dialogue hosted the online event, “Healthcare Investment & Economic Recovery in the Americas.” The panel discussed the state of healthcare in the region, and how targeting specific health investments can lead to a more sustainable economic recovery in Latin America and the Caribbean. The event featured welcome remarks by Michael Shifter, with comments from panelists Luis Miguel Castilla, Jaana Remes and Rolf Hoenger.
On May 11, Michael Shifter, president of the Inter-American Dialogue, participated in an event on Latin America’s 2021 and 2022 electoral calendar, which was organized by WorldDenver and moderated by Anna Alejo.
Working with the non-profit Stand Together, renowned Mexican chef and Dialogue alumna Pati Jinich has published a new e-book called The Stories of Our Table. The book is a compilation of recipes that “span continents, centuries, and are a delightful reminder that unique recipes can be tasty to everyone and anyone who ventures to try them at home.”

The panel discussed a new report published by the Dialogue’s Peter D. Bell Rule of Law Program and authored by María Luisa Romero, Luisa Stalman, and Azul Hidalgo Solá, which examined how the Covid-19 pandemic impacted prison policies in Latin America.
Energy storage is a class of technologies that is diverse, complex, and rapidly evolving. Policymakers in Latin America and the Caribbean will need to acquire a strong grasp of the technical characteristics and benefits of these technologies, the services they can provide, and the most relevant regional and power market applications for each technology, according to this report authored by experts from the Inter-American Dialogue and the Inter-American Development Bank.
