On October 5, 2020, the Inter-American Dialogue hosted “The Context of the Constitutional Reform in Chile: The Comparative International Experience,” part of a series of events related to the process of constitutional reform in Chile. Panelists discussed a set of comparative examples from which Chile can draw lessons from as well as considerations that Chile must make as they undergo the process of constitutional reform.
2020 has been a tumultuous year for Latin America’s energy sector. The global pandemic has led to a sharp decline in oil demand and prices even as clean energy investments accelerate. With presidential elections around the corner in the United States, the future of US energy diplomacy in the region is unclear. Industry executives, government officials, and corporate representatives convened to discuss the challenges and opportunities in today’s energy markets during the virtual Fourth Annual Energy Conference.
On September 30, 2020, the Inter-American Dialogue hosted “Venezuela’s Humanitarian and Human Rights Crises-The Search for Innovative Responses” to discuss the current humanitarian situation as well as present the findings of the Dialogue’s Rule of Law Program’s report, Corruption and Crisis in Venezuela: Asset Repatriation for Humanitarian Relief.

Jorge Oteiza, CEO de Criteria, moderó la conversación que analizó el impacto de la próxima elección en EEUU sobre una variedad de temas importantes para la región.

On September 29, the Inter-American Dialogue hosted a wide-ranging conversation with Luis Alberto Moreno, the outgoing president of the Inter-American Development Bank, in recognition of his productive collaboration with the Dialogue and his contributions to our mission for more than two decades. Over 45 Dialogue members convened to listen to Moreno’s perspectives as he reached the end of his 15 years as president of the IDB.
On September 9, 10, and 11, 2020, over 6,000 participants from around the world convened virtually for the 24th Annual CAF Conference to discuss the most pressing issues facing the Western Hemisphere.
On Sept. 18, 2020, members of the Inter-American Dialogue’s corporate program met virtually with José Manuel Restrepo, Colombia’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism, and Flavia Santoro, the President of ProColombia.
On August 13, the Inter-American Dialogue’s Education Program, the Early Childhood Development Action Network (ECDAN), UNICEF and United Way convened a virtual seminar on the role of the private sector in early childhood development in Latin America.
On June 28, the Regional Network for Measuring Child Development (REMDI) convened a virtual seminar to reflect on surveys that are used to measure early childhood development in the region.

On August 4, 2020, the Inter-American Dialogue hosted “Haiti and Covid-19 – Analysis and Solutions,” a webinar in partnership with Université Quisqueya to discuss their newly launched book, “Haiti et le Covid 19. Des outils pour comprendre et agir.” The panel featured Fritz Jean, Georges Sassine, Mirlande Manigat, and Georges Fauriol. Dan Erikson moderated the event.
On August 6, 2020, Michael Camilleri, director of the Peter D. Bell Rule of Law Program, spoke as a panelist at an event held by the World Refugee & Migration Council and Integrity Initiatives International to discuss two proposals designed to combat grand corruption and assist those who have been forcibly displaced as a result of this corruption.
