Member in the News: Eric Garcetti

On March 24, 2023, Inter-American Dialogue member and former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti was sworn in by US Vice President Kamala Harris as the new US Ambassador to India. 

Garcetti has a distinguished career as a policymaker and academic, with his academic research primarily focused on conflict in Southeast Asia and Northern Africa. As the forty-second mayor of Los Angeles, California, Garcetti was the youngest person and second Mexican-American to serve in the position. He also previously served as a member of the Los Angeles City Council. Garcetti was instrumental in the Inter-American Dialogue’s event hosted on the margins of the IX Summit of the Americas, Mayors Summit: Shared Challenges, Shared Solutions.
