With no time to lose, Colombia’s newly appointed Director of National Planning has gotten to work on an ambitious agenda.
Inter-American Dialogue non-resident Senior Fellow Antonia Urrejola has been appointed by the UN as an expert on the peace agreement in Colombia. The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, made the appointment following a request from the organization to designate an international expert tasked with identifying and verifying obstacles to the implementation of the 2016 Peace Agreement.
"Urrejola will be tasked with identifying the consequences of these obstacles to the full enjoyment of human rights under international law, as well as the domestic right to peace enshrined in Colombia's Political Constitution, and making recommendations to help overcome them," said a UN statement.
Urrejola is a lawyer specializing in human rights and the rights of indigenous peoples. She has formerly served as Chile's minister of foreign affairs and as president of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
Antonia Urrejola is a non-resident senior fellow with the Peter D. Bell Rule of Law Program at the Inter-American Dialogue.
