WASHINGTON, DC – The Inter-American Dialogue, CAF Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Organization of American States are pleased to announce that Luis Abinader, President of the Dominican Republic, will deliver the keynote address at the 27th Annual CAF Conference. This premier event on Latin America and the Caribbean will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Organization of American States in Washington, DC.

The 2024 CAF Conference, focusing on the intersection of security and development challenges in the region, will address critical issues including regional stability, transnational organized crime, subnational approaches to creating safe communities, combatting gender-based violence, and the future of US relations with Latin America and the Caribbean.

President Abinader, recently re-elected to a second term, brings a wealth of experience and insight to the conference. Known for his decisive leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and his focus on economic revitalization and anti-corruption initiatives, Abinader has led the Dominican Republic to receive international acclaim for its recovery efforts in tourism and overall economic management.

“I am honored to address the CAF Conference on issues critical to our region’s future,” said President Abinader. “The intersection of security and development is crucial for Latin America and the Caribbean, and I look forward to sharing the Dominican Republic’s experiences and insights.”

“We are honored to have President Abinader as our keynote speaker,” said Dr. Rebecca Bill Chavez, President & CEO of the Inter-American Dialogue. “His participation will set the stage for our dialogue and agenda to advance collaborative solutions for strengthening security and fostering sustainable development across the hemisphere.”

“The CAF Conference has become a key forum for addressing major development issues in Latin America and the Caribbean from a global perspective, featuring high-profile figures such as the President of the Dominican Republic, whose contributions will add significant value to the discussions,” said Sergio Diaz-Granados, CAF Executive President.
