Sonia María Pellecer is coordinator for the International Organization on Migration’s Annual Survey on Remittances in Guatemala.
She has been director of the Census and Survey Division of Guatemala’s National Statistical Institute (INE) and was an advisor to Guatemala’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs on consular and immigration matters. She also coordinated the Program on Child Migrants for the Secretariat of Social Well-Being (SBS) and was Director for the Inter-American Dialogue’s Guatemala office.
Pellecer is also a researcher for the Universidad Rafael Landívar and has published numerous articles on migration, remittances, and development in Guatemala.
She completed her undergraduate studies in sociology at the Universidad del Valle in Guatemala and received training in demography from the Universidad de Costa Rica’s Centro Latinoamericano de Demografía (CELADE).
Pellecer was an event speaker at the Dialogue.
