Mariellen Malloy Jewers is vice president of Open Avenues Foundation. Before joining OAF, Jewers was executive director of Women Encouraging Empowerment and a research scientist at the George Washington University.
Jewers has extensive experience in non-profit management, program evaluation and policy analysis. Her work has been published by USAID, Migration Policy Institute, Inter-American Dialogue and New England Journal of Medicine. Jewers served in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic and as an Americorps VISTA in Massachusetts.
She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the George Washington University. Jewers’ dissertation utilized within-family comparisons to isolate how lack of US citizenship impacted children’s health and access to healthcare in mixed-status families.
