Every two years, LAPOP Lab at Vanderbilt University presents the AmericasBarometer, a comprehensive regional public opinion survey that measures citizen assessment towards democratic governance, support for democratic principles and institutions, and perceptions of basic liberties.
The 2023 AmericasBarometer delivers a critical message: investing in good governance and inclusive growth is crucial for democracy and can significantly influence migration trends across the Western Hemisphere as it plays a pivotal role in shaping economic prospects and social stability. However, the region’s scorecard reveals mixed progress in good governance, marked by variations across countries in experiences with government transparency and responsiveness. In terms of inclusive growth, the region faces challenges, including rising pessimism about national economies and an increase in food insecurity. Despite these challenges, there are reasons for optimism, including the growing support for democracy among younger generations and the increasing demand for sustainable development and social inclusion.
Join us for this joint event, co-organized with LAPOP Lab, on November 29, 2023, from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM EST at the Inter-American Dialogue. Our expert panel will delve into key findings of the 2023 AmericasBarometer, shedding light on pressing regional matters, including democratic institutions and elections, crime and security, and migration.
