Event information

In 2021, remittances to Latin America and the Caribbean increased to more than US$135 billion, which marks a 24 percent increase from 2020. This growth occurred in the midst of a pandemic and provides continued evidence of the countercyclical nature of remittance flows to the region. To what extent can the sharp jump in remittances last year be attributed to higher levels of migration? Are increased earnings of migrants a significant factor? How did the remittance market perform during the past two years? Were there major shifts in sending methods? How did remittances impact economic growth? What are the prospects for continued growth in remittances in 2022?

The Inter-American Dialogue is pleased to invite you to a panel discussion of experts to address these and other critical questions. The Dialogue is also pleased to use this opportunity to release its 2021 annual report on trends in remittances.

We very much hope you will be able to join us for a wide-ranging and lively exchange.
