In the last six years, the number of start-ups has grown by a stunning 340 percent, reaching more than 3,000, mainly concentrated in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia. Hence, Credit Saison’s investment is a reasonable effort. Despite an investment slowdown, fintech in Latin America keeps its charm as one of the most dynamic areas, considering it attracted roughly $4 billion in 2023. This trend continued in 2024, with a strong first quarter showing $579 million invested. A number of reasons explain this trend, but the high demand for financial services, especially among the underbanked population, keeps resonating across countries and investors. In fact, 57 percent of fintechs in the region target this demographic. Companies like Nubank, MercadoPago and Rappi have increased competition in the banking and credit segments of the market.
