Illegal contributions to political parties and campaigns have become one of the most common methods for purchasing political influence and corrupting national and sub-national officials across all branches of government. This trend is increasingly worsened by the direct involvement of organized crime groups. To curb the illicit influence of money in politics, it is essential to establish clear standards to limit, monitor, and transparently report private financial contributions to political parties, elections, and public initiatives. Equally important is the need to address the obstacles hindering the implementation of these regulations.
