      The Power of Simplicity

      In a recent article in Colombia’s La Semana magazine, Ariel Fiszbein argues that Latin American education systems striving to increase quality would do well to remember engineer Kelly Johnson’s maxim: keep it simple, stupid.

      Rather than devising complex objectives and programs, policymakers should focus on achieving measurable goals in high-impact areas, such as early childhood education and teacher quality. Then to ensure that improvements last, education systems must evaluate progress, mobilize broad participation in the education process, and support innovation for continual improvement.
