Washington, DC – The Inter-American Dialogue is pleased to announce that Mónica Aspe, CEO of AT&T Mexico, will receive the Distinguished Leadership for the Americas Award for Digital Inclusion and Women’s Economic Empowerment at the 10th Annual Leadership for the Americas Awards Gala on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. For ten years, the Inter-American Dialogue’s Leadership for the Americas Awards Gala has honored extraordinary individuals and organizations shaping a more democratic, equitable, and prosperous future for the Western Hemisphere. Held at the historic Organization of American States, the evening convenes influential leaders, policymakers, and changemakers from across the Americas to celebrate progress and chart the path ahead.
Aspe is a pioneering figure in the global telecommunications sector, with more than two decades of experience spanning business, government, and diplomacy. She is the first woman to lead AT&T and today serves as the highest-ranking Latina at AT&T Inc. Under her leadership, AT&T Mexico became the first company to launch 5G in the country and is now the largest telecommunications wholesaler in Latin America. Her leadership has been recognized by Bloomberg’s 500 of Latin America, Mexico’s 300 Leaders, Forbes, and Expansión, which have named her among the most powerful women in Mexico.
Before her appointment to CEO, Aspe was Mexico’s Ambassador to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and co-representative to the International Energy Agency (IEA). She also served as undersecretary of communications at the Ministry of Communications and Transport, where she promoted the landmark 2014 telecommunications reform. She currently serves on the boards of Banamex, Volaris, Nemak, COMEXUS-Fulbright, and the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico.
“Mónica Aspe’s career embodies the power of innovation and inclusion. She has advanced digital connectivity across Mexico, championed opportunities for women in technology, and broken barriers as the first woman to lead AT&T Mexico. Her commitment to advancing digital inclusion and empowering the next generation of women reflect values that are central to the Dialogue’s mission, and we are honored to recognize her at this year’s gala,” said Inter-American Dialogue President and CEO, Dr. Rebecca Bill Chavez.
Previous honorees Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and former Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, former Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, and Duolingo founder Luis von Ahn.
