Washington, DC – The Inter-American Dialogue announces that Andrea Grobocopatel, a businessperson, economist, and philanthropist, will receive the Distinguished Leadership for the Americas Award for Gender Equality and Disability Inclusion, at the IX Annual Leadership for the Americas Awards Gala scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Awards are presented each year to individuals or organizations committed to the Dialogue’s mission of advancing democratic governance, shared prosperity, and social equity in the Western Hemisphere. This annual event brings together diverse leaders from across the Americas whose exceptional contributions have been instrumental in addressing the most pressing challenges facing the region.
Grobocopatel is the president and founder of Fundación FLOR, a network that promotes the training and transformation of responsible leaders to build sustainable, diverse, inclusive, and equitable organizations. Fundación FLOR has transformed the trajectory of more than 150,000 leaders across the Global South. Among them, FLOR has trained more than 1,500 women to serve in leadership positions and helped over 800 entrepreneurs scale up their businesses.
Grobocopatel has been a leading advocate for the promotion of gender equality and inclusion for people with disabilities for over two decades. She established the FLOR Diversity Awards to honor organizations that manage diversity inclusion as an integral part of their strategies and values. Additionally, she has created the Perspectivas en Diversidad program within the FLOR Foundation, which focuses on education and disability inclusion. Her advocacy work through Fundación Flor in these areas has earned her international recognition and numerous accolades.
“Andrea’s tireless efforts in promoting gender equality and disability inclusion have created tremendous change in the lives of those she has worked with in Argentina and throughout the region. Having lived in Argentina as a Fulbright scholar, I am excited about the profound impact Andrea’s work has had on the country,” said Inter-American Dialogue President and CEO, Dr. Rebecca Bill Chavez.
Previous honorees include, Djamila Ribeiro, Coordinator of the Plural Feminisms Institute, Juan Manuel Santos, Nobel Laureate and former President of Colombia, the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, former President of Brazil, Blanca Treviño, CEO of Softtek, Enrique García, President of CAF-Development Bank of Latin America, and Jaime Pumarejo, former Mayor of Barranquilla, Colombia.
