All sides are under pressure to produce a deal [in Colombia], including Mr. Uribe. Politically, with the pre-campaigning already beginning for the 2018 elections , Mr. Uribe must show that his proposals led to a better peace deal, not a deadlock. People might say ’This was a lost opportunity and Uribe is to blame.’ If Uribe was helpful, he could claim credit for a final deal and that would be a win for him.
