This decision [by the US government to nominate Mauricio Claver-Carone as IDB president] reflects the two options of this Government vis-à-vis the multilateral institutions: total control or withdrawal. Trump is not willing to give up anything, which is the essence of multilateralism, which has been successful in advancing US interests for decades.
