Sergio Guzmán, director and co-founder of Colombia Risk Analysis: “Colombia’s potential involvement in China’s Belt and Road Initiative presents both opportunities and risks. On the one hand, Chinese investments in infrastructure could boost Colombia’s economic growth, particularly in sectors like transportation, energy and telecommunications. This has been seen in other Latin American countries, such as Argentina and Ecuador, which have benefited from large-scale Chinese investments. However, at Colombia Risk Analysis we have warned that Colombia is not fully prepared to deepen its relationship with China from economic, geopolitical and strategic standpoints. Colombia does not have a clear strategic objective regarding China, and the government’s objectives…”
