How Can Uruguay Keep Growing its Tech Sector?

  • Uruguay has become a haven for tech entrepreneurs and has the highest per capita information technology exports in South America, Bloomberg News reported July 9. However, it is unclear whether Uruguay can produce enough qualified engineers to keep building on its progress as a technology hub, the news service reported. What are the main reasons behind the growth in Uruguay’s tech sector? What does the country need to do in order to produce enough qualified tech workers to continue fueling the sector’s growth? What opportunities does Uruguay’s tech sector offer for investors?

First, Uruguay’s government has actively supported the tech industry through favorable policies, tax incentives and a robust legal framework that encourages innovation and entrepreneurship. Additionally, the country’s high-quality Internet infrastructure and widespread digital literacy have created an ideal environment for tech companies to thrive. However, sustaining this growth presents a challenge, particularly in terms of producing enough qualified engineers. To continue building on its progress as a technology hub, Uruguay needs to invest significantly in education and training.
