Ray Walser, professor of practice at Seton Hall University’s School of Diplomacy and International Relations, and retired U.S. Foreign Service officer: “Saudi Arabia and Venezuela were founding members (in 1960) of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)—two vastly different nation-states united by a common interest in the pricing and production of oil. Another salient fact, only Venezuela has greater proven reserves than Saudi Arabia. Oil, it appears, can be thicker than blood or water.
