The radical transformation of Chile proposed by the new draft led a wide majority of people to reject it. This time around, the leaders of most parties with representation in Congress have agreed on a much more limited constitution writing process. There will be an elected body comprised of 50 members, but the new convention will be limited by a 12-point document that lists the basic constitutional principles that cannot be modified, including the concept of a single nation and several key institutions, like the bicameral congress, the judiciary and the independent central bank.
