Gino Costa, former member of Peru’s Congress: “There has been no coup d’état against President Pedro Castillo, but rather serious and well-founded accusations against him by Attorney General Patricia Benavides for acts of corruption and obstruction of justice. She has requested authorization from Congress to have the president tried, although the constitution forbids it. For Benavides, the prohibition is at odds with the United Nations Convention against Corruption, whose application should be preferred. If that happens…”
