The massive and indiscriminate use of social media—a factor that the ultra-right knows how to masterfully manipulate—and the illegal use of the federal government’s structure to support their candidates boosted the victory of many of them. Nevertheless, the left increased its congressional seats in relation to the 2018 election and, for the first time, Indigenous and transgender representatives were elected, reinforcing the defense of progressive agendas.
