Sebastián Acha, executive director of PRO Desarrollo Paraguay: “The main reason that drove Vice President Velázquez to withdraw his resignation is unclear, but it is hard to believe that it’s unrelated to an internal conversation between both principal movements of the ruling Colorado Party. It seems plausible as both main political figures who have been battling, former President Cartes and Velázquez, both found themselves being declared ‘corrupt’ by the U.S. government. So we can conclude that there’s been continued back channel conversation between two political leaders to reach an internal agreement to preserve the political influence of the Colorado Party on the judiciary.
