Ana Quirós Víquez is a Costa Rican and Nicaraguan feminist, human rights defender, and director of the Centro de Información y Servicios de Asesoría en Salud (CISAS) – NGO with 40 years of work in health education and communication with diverse groups for the promotion of the right to health without discrimination. CISAS’s legal status was canceled in December 2018 and its assets, expropriated. Quirós Víquez is a member of the Comisión Política del Movimiento Autónomo de Mujeres (MAM) and of the Articulación Feminista de Nicaragua. She is one of the founders of the Unidad Nacional Azul y Blanco and takes part in its political council. She is now participating in the Monteverde process.
Quirós Víquez was seriously injured in the first protests of April 2018 in Managua, by groups of hitman-like motorized vehicles. They cancelled her Nicaraguan nationality after 40 years of living in Nicaragua and 21 years in Costa Rica, without justification or legal basis and kept her detained in El Chipote. Currently, she lives in exile in Costa Rica where she is part of CISAS Costa Rica and works with Nicaraguan exiles. She received her second denationalization on February 15, 2023.
Quirós Víquez is a member of the Inter-American Dialogue’s Working Group on Politics and Mediation in Nicaragua and was an event speaker at the Dialogue.
