Ubaldo González de Frutos, PhD, is Lead Specialist on Tax Administration at the Interamerican Development Bank. As such, he promotes an agenda for the digitalization of tax administrations in LAC. Leveraging on technology means an opportunity for LAC countries to leapfrog and improve their taxpayers´ services and strengthen their control functions. Furthermore, digitalization is a powerful resource to expand the formal sector, thus reducing tax fraud and increasing productivity.
Prior to joining the IDB, Mr. González de Frutos was Senior Advisor at the OECD’s Centre for Tax Policy and Administration, where he promoted the policy dialogue with Latin American countries all along the Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) Project, organizing regional meetings in Bogotá, Lima and Montevideo. A Spanish national, he has also held senior positions at the Spanish Tax Administration, including as Financial Counselor at the Embassy of Spain in the US.
