Satoshi Ogawa

Satoshi Ogawa graduated with a BS in agricultural sciences from the University of Tsukuba in Japan, followed by a master’s degree in Biology from University of Valle in Valle del Cauca Department, Colombia, where he started his career with advanced technology in plant phenotyping. He obtained PhD in 2016, from the University, evaluating remote sensing technology for rice crop phenotyping under stress conditions.   

In 2011, Ogawa joined the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) as a visiting researcher. He received the Outstanding Research Publication Award in 2013 and 2017 and the Early Career Scientist Award in 2016, in recognition of his extensive experience in rice research ranging from molecular breeding to technology adaptation at the farm level. Currently, he serves as a technical advisor for the breeding program at the Paraguayan Institute of Agricultural Technology, as well as for several institutions in both the public and private sectors.   

Ogawa has given a wide range of lectures including “Application of IoT, Blockchain and E-commerce in Enhancing Agri-Food Supply Chains Workshop” organized by MARDI-FFTC, and leading training programs for “Prospective Agricultural Technologies as Solution of Climate Change” and “SDGs Business Model Formulation Survey with the Private Sector for Transferring Rice Transplant Technology and Developing Value added Supply Chain in Colombia” organized by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the special lectures at universities and agricultural colleges.

Ogawa was an event speaker at the Dialogue.
