Rita Maria El Zaghloul currently serves as the director of the High Ambition Coalition for Nature & People on behalf of Costa Rica, an intergovernmental group of more than 100 countries championing a global deal for nature and people with the central goal of protecting at least 30 percent of land and 30 percent of the ocean, globally, by 2030. She is the driving force behind the HAC’s 30×30 campaign, aiming to halt the accelerating global loss of species and protect vital ecosystems that are the source of our economic security.
Previously, El Zaghloul served as coordinator of the High Ambition Coalition for Nature on behalf of Costa Rica as part of the Costa Rican Ministry of Environment and Energy, as well as minister counselor and international relations advisor at the Permanent Mission of Costa Rica to the United Nations.
El Zaghloul studied international relations and affairs at the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica and Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica and then received a master’s degree in conflict, security and development from King’s College, London.
