Ricardo Torres is a Cuban economist based in Washington, D.C. He is a research fellow at the Center for Latin American and Latino Studies at American University in Washington, D.C. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Havana, where he was also a faculty member at the Center for the Study of the Cuban Economy (CEEC). He has held research fellowships at Harvard University, Columbia University, American University, and Paris 3 Sorbonne Nouvelle.
He has edited several books and published articles in international journals. He serves on the board of directors of the Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy (ASCE) and on the editorial board of the International Journal of Cuban Studies. His work and expertise have been featured in outlets including The New York Times, TIME magazine, ABC, Deutsche Welle, and El País. He is the editor of Cuba Economic Review, a biweekly newsletter featuring news, analysis, and data on the Cuban economy. He has also testified before the United States International Trade Commission.
Torres was an event speaker at the Dialogue.
