Omar Awapara is the secretary general of Peruvian civil society organization, Transparencia. He is a political scientist by training and previously served as director of the political science department at the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), global lecturer at the University of Arizona, and visiting assistant professor at St. Edward’s University (Austin, TX). Omar has a Ph.D. and an M.A. in political science and government from the University of Texas and is the author of the book The Geography of Trade Liberalization: Peru’s Free Trade Continuity in Comparative Perspective (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023). He is a regular columnist in Peruvian media outlets, including El Comercio and Semana Económica.
