Natalie Unterstell is a non-resident senior fellow for the Brazil Program at the Inter-American Dialogue, and a leading Brazilian advocate for reducing carbon emissions and stopping deforestation. As president of Talanoa, a think tank based in Brazil, she coordinates a broad multistakeholder platform focused on raising Brazil’s climate ambition. In the past, she has held senior government positions, including as head of sustainable development for the Brazilian presidency and as Brazil’s climate and forests negotiator at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). She is the founder of multiple think tanks and advises several organizations focused on climate issues, including the Green Climate Fund.
Unterstell holds a master’s degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Fundação Getulio Vargas in Brazil.
