Michelle Alas joined the Inter-American Dialogue as an intern in the Office of the President in May of 2024. She is currently a student at Brown University in the class of 2025, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in international & public affairs (policy and governance) and Latin American & Caribbean studies.
Alas is deeply interested in issues of democratic governance and human migration, with a regional focus on Central America and Brazil. She has traveled extensively, researching participatory democracy in Brazil, Indonesia, France, and Portugal. At Brown, Alas serves as editor-in-chief of the Brown Journal of World Affairs and as a Bonner Community Fellow.
Alas is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and was recently recognized as a 2024 Truman Fellowship finalist. In the future, Alas is planning on pursuing a law degree and practicing public interest law, before turning to policy research on the Western Hemisphere.
She is fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French.
