Michael Grant is the Assistant Deputy Minister for the Americas for Global Affairs Canada. After starting his diplomatic career in 1994, he served in Serbia, Turkey (with additional responsibility for Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan), Argentina, Mexico, Libya (as ambassador), and more recently, as ambassador and deputy permanent representative to the United Nations in New York.
In Ottawa, he has held various positions related to the Middle East, the G-7, and international security in Global Affairs Canada and the Privy Council Office. He has also been director-general of International Security Policy at the Canadian Department of National Defense. He is a native of Saint John (Province of New Brunswick), and in 1992, graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelors in Business Administration. Grant began his professional career as a Canadian sales representative for Allied Mineral Products Inc. based in Columbus, Ohio, United States.
