Mauricio E. Roitman is a non-resident senior fellow of the Energy Transition and Climate Transition Program at Inter-American Dialogue, the president and co-founder of Energeia, and a consultant in energy economics, planning, and economic regulation.
Roitman previously was a consultant for CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, and the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE). He also served as president of the board (by open competition) of the National Gas Regulatory Entity (ENARGAS) in Argentina from 2018 to 2020. Additionally, Roitman was previously the undersecretary of scenarios and project evaluation in the Ministry of Energy and Mining of Argentina (MINEM), from 2015 to 2018.
Roitman served as the national coordinator for Argentina for OLADE and as the head of the Argentine energy delegation at G20 meetings in China (2016) and Germany (2016/2017). He also functioned as the parliamentary liaison for MINEM and was the leader of the process of incorporating Argentina into the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). Before that, he was head of consulting projects at Energy Consulting Services (ECS), a consultant for Montamat & Asociados, and a legislative advisor on energy and public services issues.
In the academic field, Roitman works as a professor and the deputy director of the master’s in sustainable energy development at the Buenos Aires Institute of Technology (ITBA). He has previously been a fellow of the International Energy Agency (IEA), the Harvard Kennedy School, and the United States Department of State. He has published academic papers and articles in specialized newspapers and magazines.
Roitman received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Argentine Enterprise University (UADE), with a postgraduate course in the economics of public services regulation from the University of Buenos Aires. He also holds a master’s degree in economics (with distinction) from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom.
