Marta Rubio-Codina is a lead economist and early childhood development specialist in the Social Protection and Health Division of the Inter-American Development Bank. Before joining the bank, she was a senior researcher at the Institute of Fiscal Studies in London. Rubio-Codina has extensive experience designing, implementing, and evaluating interventions, working with families at scale and with governments to promote child development, and in designing strategies to improve the quality of interactions in childcare centers. She is also involved in efforts to identify instruments for measuring child development in very young children that are cost-effective to use at scale and has co-designed child development modules in national health and nutrition surveys in Mexico and Ecuador.
Her work has been published in several peer-reviewed economic and medical journals, including the British Medical Journal, PLOS Medicine, Science Advances, Journal of Development Economics, and American Economic Review.
