María Teresa Martínez Trujillo is a research professor at the Instituto de Estudios Superiores Tecnológico de Monterrey.

Martínez holds a Ph.D. in political science from Sciences Po, Paris (2019). Prior, she was an Assistant Professor at the School of Social Science and Government at Tecnológico de Monterrey. She coordinates research projects at Noria Research-Program for Mexico & Central America and is an associate researcher at the Centre de Recherches Internationales at Sciences Po, Paris.

Her research addresses businesspeople and their protection mechanisms; extortion and protection-racketeering schemas; government and non-government policing practices; violent configurations, and political violence, with a particular focus on Mexico. She currently coordinates the research seminar (Re)thinking women in violence, whose main objective is to question androcentric narratives that dominate the violence discussion, shedding light on women as agents within violent configurations.

She also collaborates as an associated researcher at the Public Security Program in México Evalúa. María Teresa has previously worked for the Mexican Federal Government, first as Deputy Director of Research at the National Security Council (2010-2011) and later as an advisor in public security issues for the Secretary of Interior (20112012). She has also worked as a Senior Researcher at the Supreme Court of Justice (2009-2010) and Senior analyst at the public opinion research department of Reforma newspaper (2004-2008).
