María Marván Laborde is a researcher at the Institute for Legal Research at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers. She has served as Chair of the Governing Council of Transparencia Mexicana since January 2015.
Marván previously served as commissioner of the Federal Institute for Access to Public Information (IFAI) from 2003 to 2011 and was its first chair from its founding until 2006. She later served as electoral councilor of the Federal Electoral Institute (IFE) from 2011 to 2014, where she also held the position of chair.
Her research focuses on the democratization of Mexico’s political system, the electoral and party systems, the right to information, government transparency, and accountability. Among her most recent publications are Sentencias Electorales a Debate and Sentencias Relevantes Comentadas, both co-edited volumes. Marván holds a BA in sociology from UNAM and earned her MA and PhD from the New School for Social Research in New York.
