M. Lucero Ortiz is the director of partnerships and capacity strengthening at Kids in Need of Defense (KIND). Most recently, Lucero Ortiz served as the director of legal services at the Central American Resource Center (CARECEN) and as a solo practitioner focused on immigration and family law in Washington, D.C.
Lucero Ortiz possesses valuable experience in strategic planning, coalition building, and delivering culturally competent and community-based direct legal services in positions at the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA), and Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, California, respectively.
Lucero Ortiz is a graduate of the American University Washington College of Law (WCL) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She has lived, studied, and traveled throughout the United States, Mexico, and Central America.
