Luiz Augusto de Castro Neves was ambassador of Brazil to Paraguay (2000-2004), China (2004-2008) and Japan (2008-2010). At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty), he was Deputy Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs and Director-General of the Department of the Americas. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Deputy Chief of Economic Affairs of the General Secretariat of the National Security Council (1985-1987) and Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic (1992-1995). He served in the Embassies of Buenos Aires, London, Washington and Ottawa. He was President of the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI) and a member of the Board of Directors of Itaipu Binacional.

Castro Neves is the president of the Brazil-China Business Council (CEBC), a non-profit institution with nearly 80 Brazilian and Chinese companies among its members. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Pão de Açúcar Group, where he chairs the Corporate Governance and Sustainability Committee, and Vice-President Emeritus of CEBRI. He is also a member of the Technical Council of the National Confederation of Commerce.
