Lenín Moreno

President of Ecuador,

Lenin Voltaire Moreno Garces has been in office since May 24, 2017. Before being elected President of Ecuador he served as the United Nations Special Envoy for Disability and Accessibly, where he focused on expanding the rights for people with disabilities and providing a better more inclusive education for children around the world. Moreno was also appointed President of the OAS’ Committee for the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities. He was elected vice-president of Ecuador as a part of Rafael Correa’s ticket in 2007 and reelected in 2009, position in which he served until 2013.

Before becoming Vice President, he was a secondary school teacher and dedicated himself to the promotion of tourism in Ecuador playing an important role in the creation of the Ecuadorean Chamber of Tourism.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in public administration from the Central University of Ecuador and has received numerous honorary degrees from several universities in both Latin America and Spain. Additionally, he has received and has been nominated for many prestigious awards including the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012.
