Juan Francisco Sandoval served as Guatemala’s Head of Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Impunity from September 2015 to July 2021. During his tenure, he investigated dozens of anti-corruption cases and relentlessly perused criminal networks. He worked with the UN-backed International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala to take down former President Otto Perez Molina and some members of his cabinet on corruption charges. He was described as “the most visible face” in the fight against corruption. In July 2021, he was removed from office by Attorney General Porras and forced to flee his native country. Sandoval was born in Guatemala City and studied Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala.
